USC wants out...
Bohn is announcing that his premier athletic program in the LA market merits SEC/B1G money. Even if the other schools are willing to accept a lower payout, they must find a way to pay USC at SEC/B1G rates. If they can't give him that, he'll find a conference that will.
He is anticipating the the next round of media deals and the expected realignment of programs from the Big12. He wants to act in that window and not wait-out another contract cycle. Hundreds of millions of dollars will be lost if he stays in the PAC another six years.
Domer, I think indy is his last resort. He'll get into the SEC or B1G if he can, and I think he can get in if he assembles the right package of schools.
On another board I suggested USC, Stanford, Arizona and Colorado, all fine academic schools. I conider the California public schools risky because of the flaky crew in Sacramento.
Add those four to whatever you think may come from the Big12 and you could end up with really nice (waaay too big) coast to coast conference.
